Just kinda curious really, whether anyone else does this. Have to confess I do - love the way it gives me more bang-for-buck, especially on good cuts of meat, fish, fruit & veg. Eating healthily can get expensive otherwise. OK, I'm not adverse to the odd cake or three too - if there's a good mark down on them...

Tonight's supper (a bit of a lazy one as I normally cook from scratch); a tesco's finest vintage cheddar and onion quiche, 25p, one bag of 5 veg medley, 20p, a bag of baby carrots, 10p, and a strawberry trifle, 50p. And there's still enough for tomorrow as well. :hungry:

Picked up a kilo of olives from the deli counter for 55p on new year's eve as well.

Yep, no problem having a rummage through the reduced to clear section.
Had some fantastic venison sausages the other week. :hungry:

My son is at Uni and has become very good at it out of necessity. He's also been eating things he probably wouldn't have tried if not for being in the reduced section

@User46386 - you'd be surprised the number of times I've seen people look at the well marked down reduced price item, dither, and then take the full price item from the same shelf...

@NorthernDave - I have some of those stashed away in the freezer. Plan on braising them in red wine with lots of onions, and dishing up with mash and red cabbage :hungry:

@Piemaster - that's exactly it. I've had things that I wouldn't dream of trying full price - case in point, the very expensive trays of party canapes over the festive season. At 50p a tray instead of a fiver, I don't mind if I do... ^_^

Yes, but at Waitrose (have to occasionally buy something to justify all the free lattes  ), occasionally Tesco...if I know I'm going to eat it ASAP. Generally not fruit or veg as seem to often be ropey

I don't really have room in my freezer...usually half of it is full of pig pancreas for my cat!

Regularly buy stickered stuff and put it straight in the freezer, but only if I have a plan of something to do with it later.

In M&S tonight and they are selling their packs of six mince pies for 10p.

I went to death row (the near their sell by date reduced section) the other night and it absolutely stunk of old fish and long dead meat. To make matters worse, this stuff was on the middle shelf,so anything below it was at risk of being dripped on.xx(
I do buy stuff when on or near its sell by date(though definitely not fish and most meat)but only if it has a lot knocked off(say 80%). If it's only reduced by say 20% i wont bother.

My best buy this Christmas was a whole gressingham duck for the grand sum of £1 - it was marked down from £11.26 ^_^

@User46386 - that's a pretty good mark-down :okay: Bet the cat was happy. I always try to snag meat or fish for my two cats, much to the amusement of the other "regulars"

@jefmcg - I prefer to buy whole veg in the reductions, but all the veg on YS over Christmas was prepped. Wouldn't buy the stuff full price though, as that's daylight robbery. Same applies to fruit.

@Accy cyclist - eeew! That sounds grim. My cut-off is 50%, less than that and I won't bother.

Does cheap supermarket toothpaste have a high floride content like Colgate Total? does anyone know please?
Do that not have google where you live?

http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/sainsburys-toothpaste--basics-75ml

1350ppm
vs

1450 ppm.

So yes, approximately.

Remember that fluoride in sufficient quantities is poisonous. More fluoride does not necessarily mean better. Is your local water supply fluoridated?
