Tonight's supper, made from a mix of yellow sticker and store cupboard ingredients; chicken and mushrooms in a white wine and tarragon sauce, rice, carrots and romanesco cauliflower. Was made from 1/2 a cooked chicken (the whole chicken was marked down to £1.35 from £4.50), punnet of mushrooms - 9p, one glass wine (freezer staple - from a bottle I won at a cat show), tarragon (dried, from bunch costing 7p), one onion, rice (store cupboard staple - Tesco value long grain), carrots (3 large, from bag that cost 10p) & cauliflower - 10p. I still have chicken and veggies for tomorrow, all I need to add to that lot is a jacket spud.

The other half of the chicken was added to a homemade pasta sauce made from one tetrapak of passata, an onion, dried oregano, garlic, garlic oil (all cupboard staples here) plus some olives from the 1kg platter I picked up on new year's eve for 55p. It's in the fridge for now, but will turn it into a pasta bake and top with the tub of buffalo mozzarella I picked up for 50p. Might add some parmesan or provolone to that too...

I do love to cook with yellow sticker stuff

Oh yes, and the cats got their share of the chicken too.

It's like Cooking With Uncle Patrick all over again.

Last time I looked, the plumbing was very definitely female

The yellow stickers in Asda say "Whoops" on them as well, so some people refer to it as looking for whoopsies. On a couple of occasions I've been in the situation where I've been *paid* to take groceries away, usually if said items have been on promotion as well e.g. 3 for 2 or bogof.
Well played, ma'am. Please excuse my lack of observation of your avatar. I think my eyes may have been tired from separating aubergine(eggplant over here) seed from the pith, so I may grow my own.

Akh, no harm done :girldance:

Good luck with growing the aubergine. Love 'em myself, but my one and only attempt ended up drowning in a mammoth infestation of greenfly. Then again, I am not especially green-fingered

Hopefully, Monsieur Toad will enjoy the greenfly before they enjoy the eggplant. I also border my garden with marigolds and nasturtiums, with some garlic and chives thrown in, just to discourage intruders. Nasturtium blossoms are very good in a salad, kind of peppery.

Can't grow nasturtiums out here, soil too acidic. Shame really, because the buds make good alternatives to capers... Marigolds though, grow like weeds - good for a clutzy gardener like me. ^_^
