Just as an example..
I'm looking at the Cannondale Super Six Ultegra at £2500 on a 2014 model and have seen a 2013 Super Six for £2000 in another shop. Both are new?
So is it a good move, or has it any pit falls?

last years spec and a different paint scheme , wouldnt bother me but then most of my bikes are 20+ years old

Wouldn't bother me, either.

Going back a few years, a lot of bike makers used to work on a two-year model cycle anyway - then marketing took over which demanded a shiny new toy each year.

At this price point, I reckon a £500 reduction is about right.

Only pitfall might be if you want to sell on, resale would be lower but then you've paid less...or if the. 2013 model is black ;)

Frames are only changed by most manufacturers about every 5 years. Just check the rest of the spec, and that the 2013 model is available in your size

Here for rides.
Componentry on mid-range bikes often gets downgraded year-on-year to hit the all important £1000 and £1500 price points meaning last year's bike may have a better spec than this year's.

Doesn't seem to happen to the same degree on higher-end bikes.

- another point - is the 2014 11 speed, and the 2013 10?

If you are looking at Paulscyles on the 2013 model I would pull the trigger for the sake of of £500.....you want to ride it not sell it. I had good service from them on a CAAD10 but had to do some minor gear adjustments on the bike stand before it was ready to ride.

It was Paul'scycles I was looknig at, but something else I have just thought of is postage..
Postage from the big company's is cheap to Spain and lots more from the smaller one's or I could pick it up but then that's a trip from Dover to Norwich and return?
Cheers

But maybe only in a year given the 2013 model is only reduced that much in advance of the 2015 model? So the 2014 might be lopped in price in advance of the 2016 release! Tend to find the bigger discounts on the last few stock models 2 or even 3 years after launch it seems

This one has £1000 off and is a 2014 ;)
