Me and the missus have booked into a 70's revival weekend in sept at Butlins just yesterday where he was supposed to be playing. In the 70s, the crowd I hung about with would never admit to liking the bay city rollers but I was actually looking forward to dad dancing to my childhood/teenage tunes again and just this morning my missus had but on shangalang and was skipping around the kitchen to it in anticipation of seeing them.
65 is no age as several people have said RIP.

Yes, they never really appealed to the fellas who mostly would never admit to liking them and thought they were a bit 'ponsy'. Recorded some catchy tunes though.

Always liked the story of how they choose the name, blindfolded sticking a pin in a map of the USA.

At the time I didn't appreciate the Rollers but over the years they have grown on me. Now when I hear one of their songs they epitomise the era for me. Looking back they seemed controversial at the time, but seem so innocent now. RIP Les McKeown.

They had no great pretensions to be super stars. They knew their material was lightweight, but there was - and apparently still is - a demand for such entertainment.
They made a decent living out of it and never hurt anyone so every credit to the boys.
Apart from Les, who ran over and killed a pensioner in 1975 in his Ford Mustang.
And Derek Longmuir, who was convicted of possessing child porn.
And their manager Tam Paton, convicted of gross indecency with teenage boys.

I was at primary school at the time so a prime target but I hated them almost as much as Gary Glitter. I wasnt some too cool for school Bowie fan but glam rock of any quality was not my bag.

To be fair what Tam Patton was sent to prison for in 1982 wouldn't have been a criminal offence today. At the time the age of consent for homosexual acts was 21, not 16 like it was after 2001.
