Alright that clears things up thank you. I think i will get the Giant defy 2.
Given that both the Tiagra and 105/FSA gear/crank components could reasonably be expected to last thousands of miles with minimal problems, it probably boils down to Tiagra/Hollowtech vs BB30 bottom bracket bearings - I expect you'll get horror stories and raves for both...

I have a Defy 2 and I changed the chain at about 2500 miles. That's it. Tiagra cassette is still in great shape and would not need changed until at least one more chain is worn out. No other issues at all.

FWIW, I tried both the Defy & CAAD8 (and others) before spending my money and I went with the CAAD, the geometry suited me better. Try them, they're quite different frames. Components are components at the end of the day.

Yes well i have now looked a little deaper. As it happens the CAAD 8 is a better frame with tiagra but costs $200 more, all for frame. The tiagra Giant Defy 2 is bot as good of a frame, but has the same shifting componants and a simular bb. I dont need it for legit racing so the Giant defy it is. PS : i can not properly demo either because I ride an extra large frame or a 59-62 cm seat tube size frame, and both would wait on order.

FWIW have a look at Giant's size guide.

They use a very compact geometry & so I needed a size M/L rather than my usual size Large (6ft 0 & 33" leg) don't know what that is in cm/mm.

There is a Pro on the World Tour who rides a size M/L who is 6ft 2"

Always worth a double check with sizes.
