and those reasons are ........?

The bracket where the brake caliper would be on normal bikes needs something between it an the mudguard , it will wear here and eventually snap in 2 without something between it , others have used old tubes , I used sticky backed Velcro .

Anyone else got pics of their caadx disc with front and rear mudguards fitted?
And also - what size tyres can be fitted and still leave plenty of clearance under the mudguards?

I put up with the odd noise coming from my Basso with its Crud Roadracers on but if I had a bike designed to take mudguards, then I would expect that not to be an issue!

I used a front brake bolt as a spacer to get round the disc brake mechanism on the bike I built this year.

That's similar to what I use on my Tricross, still had to bend the stays a little though.
I've been thinking that my Basso is neither one thing nor the other so am toying with replacing it with a CAADX or similar.

A CX bike with a rack and mudguards and biggish semi-slick tyres would be good for towpaths, moderately rough bridleways, light touring duties and rides in bad weather. My Cannondale would be kept for fair-weather road rides, and my MTB would still be available for gnarly offroad.

That CAADX is such a poorly thought out frame. Merida obviously thought it's riders were well 'ard not needing mud guards so put the rear brake calliper in the crap 'outside the rear triangle position' as opposed to inside making mounting mud guards and a rack really easy. Front fork fail as bosses for mud guards with calliper in the way is another fail. I guess it is cheap so this is the reason why.

You will need to make adaptations to use all the mud guard stays otherwise the mud guards will rattle like hell and possibly catch the tyres which I think you already found out.

Why isn't this thread in the Technical Know How forum?

So which bike are you coating off this time? The CAADX or the Merida, or both? Here'a a crazy thought, maybe the frame is designed for, wait for it, cyclocross so having mounts for racks and guards weren't at the forefront of the designers minds? Actually, I'll further that point by mentioning that there's only one mounting point on the dropouts. But of course, you'd know that if you actually owned one.

Take your trolling elsewhere.
