I'd have thought the Air Force Cadets would get to play with the best 'toys' but then here in Leicester we have 'Sea Cadets' and it's not really possible to get any further from the Sea.

Mind you they do have a gun to look at on 'TS Tiger'

Mine were in the Army cadets on London Road, a bit further out of town past the football ground. They loved it, occasional nights out camping and that kind of stuff. It was some years ago.
There's the Sea Cadets at the building dead opposite the Bridge Street Police station...just by the river, I don't know how well it's regarded.
Air Force Cadets....I never saw anyone dressed for it or where it's held.

I was a sea cadet for many years and I loved it. Assuming she doesn't harbour desires to join one of the services, or to do activities closely associated with one branch or another, such as sailing, flying etc then I'd say the main difference will be in the local units. I'd suggest she visits them, she can go along and get a feel for them without committing. Largely its the enthusiasm and interests of the adult volunteers that make a unit rather than an, and its important she 'fits' that feel to get the most out it of her time with them.

Our local air cadets get to sit in the cockpit section of an old Hawker Hunter on a big trolley. That seems to about it.

Our police cadets I think are now public service cadets and do a bit of Trumpton too.

Our Army cadets have their own range and get to shoot sleeved down .22 versions of the FAL, so that would be the one I would join.

I would say join the Sea Cadets, but then again I'm biased as I did 25 years in the Royal Navy !!

My lad did a year or so of Army Cadets. He enjoyed it, but wanted to take it seriously as he was considering a military career. He was frustrated because many of them just turned up for the social side of things, (which seemed to involve standing round smoking and swearing....) and the leadership was a bit fluffy. However, the expeditions and overnight stuff were good fun, and he was selected for the NE Regional Rugby team so had a great weekend over in Brecon where they beat the Welsh team for the first time in living memory! He gave up in the end, he just got fed up with the kids who weren't interested in learning anything, and prevented the whole group from progressing.
