Has anyone ridden in this event before?

Thoroughly enjoyed the Etape Caledonia at the weekend, first ride of that kind, and I am thinking of entering this.

I realise it's longer and tougher than the Etape Caledonia, my question is how much tougher?

I didn't find the Etape Caledonia particularly difficult and got round the shortened route in 4,11 excluding punctures and a wait up at the top of the Schiehallion climb.

My previous longest cycle had been about 80 miles. Would I be daft to enter this without a lot of time to train beforehand?

Does not look that difficult. You'll be fine.

And it is not "The UK's highest event on a public road" that's just made-up nonsense. I have ridden audax events in the UK on higher roads. In fact I have ridden one event with 2 higher roads: The Lecht (644m) and Glenshee (665m). Sportive marketing is so full of crap.

My next sportive type event is the Southern Upland Sportive on the 12th July (no jokes about walks please) Its 105 miles with a very big sting in the tail!!!

My next sportive type event is the Trossachs Ton on the 21st June. I don't think the pack will be as big as the Etape Caledonia which makes it seem easier plus the ovetraking opportunity are more frequent making me feel better.

Try the Cairngorm 50 (48) if you're in doubt about the 100(98).

Unfortunately, using my face as a brake at 20mph while mountain biking on Thursday evening means that I may not be back on my bike for a week or two.

Looks like I might have to look at events a bit later on in the summer.

Last I saw of the bike was when I was getting bundled in to the back of the ambulance! However, my mate assures me that is in one piece in his house.

As far as the injuries go - slowly getting better but I fear my modelling career may be over. :?:

Not got any photos that I can upload I'm afraid.

I've got about 10 stitches on my lip and forehead and another 10-15 starting on my lower eyelid and heading off in a L shape towards my eyebrow if that satisfies your curiosity any!

Taught me a bit of a lesson actually, it happened on a bit of trail that I consider 'easy' and have ridden it umpteen times before without any problems. Just goes to show what can happen if you let your attention wander/go a wee bit too fast for the conditions/your ability.

It was my protective glasses that caused the cuts around my eye and must have been a few milimeters from cutting my eyeball. Quite a sobering thought really.

The ones on my lip and forehead were ok. It was the hour long operation under local anaesthetic the next day at the Eye Pavillion that wasn't a lot of fun. Wasn't painful, just very, very unpleasant. Having two surgeons getting wired in about my eye while fully conscious isn't an experience I hope to repeat.
Staff in both A and E and the Eye Pavillion were great though.

Stitches come out on Friday so hopefully should be back on my bike soon.

I had wondered about that one. Looks very tough though. Suppose I've got time to get fit for it.
