Calling all brickies, builders or brick lovers - whats this?

the planner 'suggested' today that the extension really should be matching i didnt realise i would need any. (The plans clearly showed it was to be rendered!!!)

Try and keep to render if you can as stone (it looks like ashlar stone not cladding) will cost much more. Depending where you are planning to extend will you be covering some of the existing stone? If so how about reusing a small amount to keep the planners sweet and rendering the rest?

I definitely think that render is the better bet. Even if you find the block, delivery on this stuff can take forever, and, here's the really **** thing - batches will have different colours. You could put your new walls up and find that you have just missed.

Definitely not cladding. loads of housing developments built using this material on this side of the Pennines too, mainly during the 90's and in semi-rural locations to try and fit in with the feel of the area (Glossop district and the Saddleworth side of Oldham etc). Came in many shades from yellow through to grey and probably changed everytime to keep up with fashions and could be a nightmare to match to.

As suggested, try builders merchants but if you fancy a bit of detective work you could talk to a few brick manufacturers who might point you in the right direction. Also possibly worth checking a few stones to see if they carry any markings. Can you pinch a few from somewhere inconspicuous like a step or a wall that will be obscured by the extension? If you could find a stone with the manufacturers name on then you are halfway there.

thank you everyone. i have spoken to the planner and the matter s now resolved, but you were all terribly helpful and resourceful. (except those who told me it was cladding. how very dare you!)
