Hi all.
It's not every day I ask for a little compassion and help but this is a tricky one.
I have a like minded mate young and athletic and he would like to get a road bike to come out with my self. I have looked over the uk on many a web site for a bike for around £100/£150 to get him out on a run.
I wouldn't say he is trying to get a bargain but he would prefer to dip his foot in the water befor committing to a rather nice new road bike. Age isn't really a problem and as a competent bicycle mechanic I can repair and tune what ever is out their to suit. So if anyone knows of or indeed owns a suitable bike please get in touch.
Otherwise I am all out of ideas

Thanks for your time.

Triban 3 - simples. Quality bike, but they are £300 ish. Some models are on sale at £250 ! You will struggle for £150, even secondhand.

Imo your best bet is to get a second hand triban or carrera TDF or zelos for that money!

Just a thought here.

You are a 'competent bike mechanic' - correct ?

How about a self build from parts ?

I have watched good frames/forks from good brands both aluminium & steel go for buttons on ebay - Cube/Giant/Raleigh etc (not top of the range mind - but good enough).

I have likewise seen bars/stems/saddles & seatposts go for very little.

In fact it is possible to buy end of line & sale items new of all those mentioned new from major on-line retailers for very little.

I reckon if you can keep to a strict max budget when bidding or buying from say Wiggle/CRC/Evans/Probikekit/ Merlincycles or even Halfords you could get everything for £150 - £175 + say £25 fund for any unforseen items.

This could turn into a mini adventure - of sorts for you & your mate. (Half the thrill is in the chase).

Once complete - there is every chance of getting most of your £$£ back for a complete bike.

Best of British anyway.

find your local bike jumbles or have a chat with LBS, see if they've had people offering stuff as PX. Also if you work for an employer with an internal internet system, put a bike wanted shout out on there.

My friend is really interested in taking up Lamborghini driving. If anyone knows of a Lamborghini, preferably a Gallardo, available for very much less than its market value Id be really grateful. Because heaven forbid he have to pay the actual real cost of something.
