Folks, what's the best way, by car, to get from the A34 north of Newbury, to Horsham in West Sussex, and vice versa?
Normally, when heading somewhere north of a line from Bristol to the Wash we first head due west on the A272 and then head north up the A34 once we reach Winchester. This completely avoids the M25 which is the point. Time spent needlessly on the M25 is like time spent needlessly in a suit; bad karma.
Not a part of the world I have recent driving experience in, and, as we have a few trips that can't be readily done by public transport over the next few months I'm hoping someone here knows the right route to take the corner off the square.
(It took six-and-a-half hours to drive from Horsham to Amber Valley in Derbyshire on Friday, and we left home at 14:15 for flip's sake!)
