i've been offered a job in sheffield :dance:but the commute will be a tad too far to cycle (40+ miles each way, over the pennines). i'm toying with keeping a bike there and doing a lunchtime ride, but one my one visit (for the interview), the place looked a bugger to get to/from on a bike as it's on the industrial estate between the airport and m1.

obviously i can look on google earth or whatever, but if anyone knows the area and knows the little cut-thoughs etc that might make a half hour ride possible, i'd appreciate the intelligence ;)

Steel yourself, Alecs. Good luck...Marinyork is a bit of a stainless character of this forum who knows his way around...as I'm sure many others do, of course. Nice place for a bike ride.

Are you relocating to Sheffield? I'm from Sheffield, but don't know that part very well. Guessing you are somewhere near Parkway (dual carriageway from city centre to M1). Might be worth pinging SheffieldTiger.
Dont forget to go to Decathlon at St.Mary's/Bramall Lane!

not yet maz, money not enough for disrupting daughter #1's gcses at the mo, but if job goes well, it's a possibility in future. i loved the place when i was a student there in the early 1990s.

easiest routes will be out to the east, look at the lanes around Maltby, Braithwell, Oldcotes, Bawtry, getting out to the Peak from that part of Sheffield is not that easy,

Cut through to where?

You can cut through to Brinsworth very easily on Wood Lane (you can't in a car).

You can duck under the parkway very quickly and go round Treeton and Orgreave, Ulley and so on.

Quite a nice ride upto Thorpe Hesley from that area.

The TPT and canal and that kind of thing is fairly close if it floats your boat.

You could always cycle to Planet-X at dinnertime .

Roads round here are good but think its alittle to far for half hour will take you that in the car
