I need to install my new Nerius 34t 110 BCD inner chainring. Am I correct that I should not use a torque wrench to remove the bottom bracket? I read somewhere that torque wrenches are designed only for tightening not un-tightening. Seems the recommended torque for tightening is 45-50Nm. Glancing at stores it seems most 1/4" wrenches only go up to 25Nm. Should I be looking for a 3/8" wrench? The five crank bolts on mine are definitely not hex. They seem to be torx - is that correct? Asking because I don't want to round them out.

Not familiar with your chain set, but on the ones I have, no need to remove the BB. Just remove the outer ring and then the inner, while the BB and spider remains in place on the bike.

On a Campag Ultra Torque you don't need to take off the bottom bracket to change the chainring. You just have a single (very big) hex key in the middle that you undo and the two halves of the girth joint axle split in half. I couldn't use a torque wrench on that bolt even if I wanted because the hex head is so far embedded in the axle the only thing that worked for me is a long 10mm hex key.
The bearings are also pressed into the chainset so you never need to undo the cups, even if you need to change the bearings.
Chainrings are a T30 bolt.

From the park tool video above... torque wrench with long hex key attachment
