Quick question for guys in the know

I have just won a set of wheels off ebay.

The front is a mavic open pro running a Campagnolo record hub and the rear is a mavic open pro running a Campagnolo mirage hub.

will i be able to fit my shimano cassette or will i need to order a new cassette?

I also take it that if i do need to get a campagnolo cassette it will work fine with my shiamano 105 rear mech?

Thanks
Dave

No campag hubs will not accept Shimano cassettes.

Depending on whether you have 9 or 10 speed will dictate whether running shimano gear changers with a campag cassette will be either fiddly, contrived or not worth the effort. Or all three.

My advice, is you should be happy you have won a front wheel with Record front hub and open pro rim which is as close to heaven as it gets. So either flog the complete rear wheel and buy another with Shimano 105 / Ultegra and Open Pro, have the rear wheel re-hubbed (not really viable).

I paid £70 for the pair which are only 6 months old and covered about 500 miles.

Do you think i would be better of buy another rear then? Could sell the other a get a replacement as you say.

I had no idea that they were differant. more an MTB boy than road stuff.

Yes if the rear is in good nick, I would try to sell it. Mirage is nowhere near as good as Record, so anything over £30 would see your money back.
Unfortunately it will cost way more than that to get another Shimano rear wheel.

thats not to bad then.

have found a guy selling the 105 with an open pro rim on ebay new for £100.

if i get £30 for the rear ill still end up witha good set of wheels for £140.

top man. if these are ok ill buy one of them.

I have all shimano 105 shifters and mechs on my bike.

if this will fit ill just buy one of them as i need to get another cassette.

A Mirage hub is still a reasonable quality hub and you can get cassettes with Campag splines and Shimano spacing : here for instance - http://www.ukbikesto...ed-casette.html

Might be the best solution in terms of cost.

Looks like its still going to have to be another rear wheel

they dont seem to do a cassette with a Campagnolo splin but shimano spacing.
