I am looking for a triple crankset 52/42/30. square taper 175 mil cranks. They were discontinued some time back, but someone must have on somewhere. Thanks in advance, Paul.

I managed to find one on eBay unused, bought it because the middle ring had worn on mine (which has 172.5mm cranks) so replaced the whole lot.

Does it need to be 175mm?

No, 172.5 would probably be ok. Otherwise I will have to replace the whole groupset, shifters, front and rear mechs ,BB. The nearest I can get now is a compact, 50/39.

Why? Apart from the aesthetics other folks triples will work just as well.

So, would say a FSA triple work, or a Shimano 105 for instance? I am a little short of expertise on these matters. I thought you couldn't interchange different manufacturers components.

Yes. The build I'm planning, and buying bits for, will have SRAM and campag (compact as it happens as I'm swapping from race triple) up front and I've done enough research and asked enough folk and seen enough examples in the wild to be sure it will work ok.

The shifting might not be as crisp, say with an FSA as they have a rep for being a bit agricultural, but so long as your ring sizes match your mech the mech and shifter know nor care what they are derailing your chain onto.
