After longing for one for donkeys' years I finally found one that I could just about afford and that I could use day to day, only being able to afford one vehicle. The roof popped up, so it would go under car park barriers. It was just dandy for one person (or two extremely good friends) and you could roll two bikes in the back without having to take the front wheels off. I used it a fair bit at first, mainly travelling about to audaxes and other rides, but as time went on the novelty of it just wore off. Everything is such a faff and involves a lot of clambering about, and sitting in a field in your camper on your own can come to be a lonely experience.

So when I moved into town and didn't really need a vehicle at all any more I sold it and haven't really missed it. It used to get a lot of admiring remarks though, because it was just so clunky.

I want one sooooo badly!

I plan to convert my van into a camper when I retire, or more likely semi-retire. Just like the panel van conversion in the post above. I do work for a couple of companies that do vehicle conversions so I have an idea of what's possible.
One of my neighbours has an original VW campervan which he renovated and it looks terrific. I did the seating for it:

You could save your pennies for one of these..........

I was going to say I'd like to see you try that around the lanes of Cornwall, but even in a city I think you'd struggle!! And I definitely wouldn't want to be anywhere near to be caught up in the ensuing chaos. But somehow I can't work out what size it is.... It's probably smaller than my brain thinks it is.

Not as petite as a VW Camper, but here's a pic of our previous van. My old Scott G-Zero which gave rise to my CC user name is just on the pic, alongside the boss lady's Scott Contessa.

We once toured Wales & Southern England in a transit sized van (can't remember the make) with just a mattress in the back, of course we were young & foolish but it was brilliant, I am always looking at campers, this is my latest lust, just need the cash !

I've thought for awhile that that should be the next retro-update vehicle, following the success of the facelifted Beetle, Mini & Fiat 500. Lots of people love them, lots of people who are the right age and have plenty of money, and would just about sell their souls for an updated version of that, with modern reliability built in.
VW are apparently looking at it. Link. Can't really see how camping in the wild with an EV will work, but what would I know?
I do reckon it makes sense as a city people mover though. Electric cars now mostly seem to look like a petrol car and still have a bonnet where the engine would go. Electric motors are much smaller to tuck away, batteries in the floor to keep weight nice and low. All gives more space inside for people/luggage.
Could even see it working as a conversion of a classic bus
