Yep, we have an old VWT4 California, with the interior built by Westfalia, before VW bought the conversions in house for the T5 and T6. Fantastic old bus, no bigger than a big estate car, so practical to drive around and still fit in our garage. It has a 2.5 litre diesel, so it will get a shift on on the Autobahn and we cover several thousand kilometres with ease.
I luckily have a job with long holidays, so we spend up to four weeks away in the summer chasing the sun across the continent, as well as several shorter trips throughout the year. It's also really practical as a vehicle, we can pop the bench seat down, or even remove it entirely and then we effectively have a van which can be used for moving all kinds of loads.
It is small, especially for a family of four, but we have a drive away awning tent that attaches to the wind out awning on the side and the kids sleep in there, whilst we sleep in the pop top. We have a fridge, gas cooker, sink and cupboards, as well as a night heater. There are two beds and the front seats swivel around to face the rear. It can be a little tight for four, especially in inclement weather, but for two it's perfect.
