Can anyone recommend a campsite near/in the Trough of Bowland. Water, showers, toilets would be nice.

Cycle touring, so just a small tent.

Many thanks
Guy

How much does it cost to Oldham?
There's loads of places in Garstang, Scorton, Forton and so on. 5 mile down the road. Sorry can't help with specifics.

Where do you mean by 'in the Trough of Bowland'? Let's call it Sykes Farm at the eastern end of the pass. In that case, the Bowland Wild Boar Park site is 9km from there, or 6km south of Dunsop Bridge. I've not noticed any closer to Sykes when cycling through there, but I'm never looking for camp sites, so that doesn't mean there aren't any. Scorton, etc. are about 15 miles down the road, and the road goes over two sizeable hills so not 'close' as such really.

Marl Barn is a fair bit further than the Wild Boar place but has a pleasing, two dimensional owl sign :-)

It rather depends on where you're coming from and going to really.

Do you mean the Forest of Bowland Guy?

The 'Trough of Bowland' is essentially just a pass

I'll be coming from a south-west direction, so I was thinking about "Bolton by Bowland".

I liked the owl sign too.:okay:

If I had known that you cycle round there I would have dragged you over for one of our forum rides!

If I finally manage to get going this year there should be at least a couple in the FoB.
I've never been very good on hills, I prefer the flat or only mildly undulating roads of the Cheshire plains, they suit us softies.

But, since now I have my secret weapon, a 42T rear sprocket and a 24T front chainring, anything possibly could and probably can be climbed, if slightly slowly.

There are quite a few small CCC certificated sites which have Clitheroe addresses (but actually situated well outside Clitheroe). Some of them are members only and some welcome non-members. There's also the Edisford Bridge Farm caravan/campsite which is on the edge of Clitheroe, is opposite a pub which does decent meals, and offers pretty good rates for a 1 - 2 person tent. Depending on when you go, and the size of your tent, it might only be £10/night and it has full facilities. If there's a very wet day while you're there, you're within easy walking distance of Clitheroe and its many good pubs, cafes, bars, indie shops etc etc. Or castle, museum and galleries if your tastes are at a different level. And a big Booths too! Also there are bike shops, cafes and coops etc in Clitheroe. @Blue Hills probably has more uptodate info than I do.
