Can anyone help me to buzz?

I think I may be about to embark on an exercise that will stretch my limited talents.

As a volunteer for a charity, I need to make one of them hand-eye coordination wire buzzer type thingies for use on our summer fun days, where the participant holds a wand with a loop and passes this around a twisty wire, taking care not to make a circuit otherwise a buzzer will sound. Now I remember that V=IR and even Fleming's left-hand rule. And that's about it.

And I need to include a lamp as some of the folks attending will be hearing impaired. And the bits should be cheap as the charity is never awash with funds...

So will this work as a component list?

all wired up in series to http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-extra-long-life-alkaline-9v-battery-1-pack-l46al
Or should the lamp and buzzer be wired in parallel.

(I've thrown in the switch above so we can revert the wand back to the original start without driving the staff to distraction; though we could go "backwards" for the next attempt.)

The only other things I'm unsure of are:
1) whether the led, mounted on a supporting base, will be bright enough to alert the punter when their focus is on the wire maze. If not, what then?
2) will the battery last for say 30 minutes buzzing?

As always, (most of) your comments gratefully received.^_^

1. The colour of the LED is of utmost importance, visibility of this item should be clearly visible in any weather conditions and against any background. A sort of 'Nuclear Meltdown Yellow' should do it. Don't forget to issue competitors with protective gear too, including goggles, helmet and appropriate body padding..
2. If the competitor is not seriously cooked after 30 minutes you may need to change the battery for a new one quite quickly, or perhaps use a bigger, more powerful one in the first place. You may not need a buzzer because I think the sounds made by the approaching ambulance may be loud enough to attract everyones attention.

Hope that's helpful. (More serious replies will be along shortly.)
