Hello,

New to the forum and my partner has recently acquired a tandem bike i would say of 60's/70's vintage, but the gear shifter requires replacing.

Would anyone know what type this is and where i might be best placed to start looking to find one to buy online?

Many thanks in advance!

Hello and :welcome: to the forum.

It’s a basic friction (no indexing) shifter. No branding evident. If you want to replace it new here’s a Sunrace one on Amazon.

If you want something more period correct I’m sure you could find some on eBay.
This one is indexed and a bit later but I’m sure you could find a seventies one:

Give it a good blasting out first with some WD40, find a place to get the straw in & work the shifter at the same time.... might just bring it back to life, back to reality... :okay:
If it works blow some GT 85 in it.... often!

The advice to repair is good, saves money and it's pretty damn easy to do!
Failing that, tho, I frequently (too frequently) frequent a bicycle breaker shop where they recycle old bicycles. Many good things have been found there. Unfortunately. (a perfect 80s Cilo frame. a complete 70s Raleigh International.)
