When you flush a spider down the sink it curls up to trap air bubbles around its self so it can float.

If it can then get purchase on the pipe wall, then yes they can crawl back out if they haven't already been swept away around the U-bend.

They don't come from around the U-bend because of the water trap.

talking about ones that weren't in the sink, she keeps getting them in the kitchen and bathroom sinks at her shop about the size of my palm and removing them (while getting freaked out so they have to be getting in somewhere, I thought falling off the ceiling into the sink but in both rooms this is unlikely

My understanding is that they get to the sinks from the top to get some moisture, but then can't climb back out.

If you leave an old cloth over the edge to the bottom, it makes a nice spider ladder and they can be on thier way after they have had a drink.

House spiders are wanderers and cover all the home on their travels.


The reason they're in sinks and baths is because they've wandered into them and then can't get out because the surface is too slippery for them.

Give the place a good vacuum. Not just the floor, get into all the corners on walls, ceiling, lintels, etc.

She has arachnophobia and spiders shouldn't hurt her, unless their Australian or come under the title camel or Red knee-back


The house spider will eat insects such as:

• Beetles
• Earwigs
• Cockroaches
• They also have a tendency to eat earth worms

It is normally a male spider found in a bath or sink having fallen in looking for a female. Its best not to kill spiders as they are very important in controlling the level of other insects that are pests.


Spiders found in bathtubs or sinks have come up through the drains from the sewers.

Get used to it. They will always be there no matter how hard you try to get rid of them so better just to accept it.
