Hey everyone,
As some of you may know, I just recently bought a Boardman Race. I'm not very experienced with bikes at the moment so was kind of following Halfords lead on the assumption they knew their stuff with sizing me up correctly.
My friend saw me on the Race and was disgusted at how badly it fit so instigated a complaint for me and they swapped it round for the Comp. May I just add, the man's 55cm framed Comp
The guy sorting it out for me was fantastic and so apologetic, he couldn't have done more. Except when it came to sizing it again I felt a bit misguided. having no turbo trainer and no real measurements taken I just went with how the bike felt and it did feel ok. Not at any point did the manager that was authorising this transaction, come out and speak to me to try and size the bike up. He just actioned the swap and checked through the other guy that I was ok with it (apparently)
After racking up nearly 100 miles, I noticed a lump appear behind my knee. It hasn't gone away. I did nearly 30 miles on Sunday and I'm almost crippled with pulled muscles and currently on really strong anti inflammatories.
Stumbled across an independant cycling shop right near my house (don't know how I haven't seen this before) and was talking to them about pedals etc ended up showing the guys my bike, was totally devasted when they said it was just all wrong and there was no way they could correct it for me. They asked a few questions about 'Have I had this problem' and 'Have I found that' etc which of course I had found I'd had all those problems.
Called Halfords thinking I was never going to resolve it and would be stuck with the bike. Spoke to the manager who at first got really shirty with me. Had to tell him to stop speaking to me like that and let me finish what I needed to say! I told him it had to be sorted because of all the pain I'm in.
He said a few things. 'Well I thought you said you were fine with the size. I hadn't thought it was a good idea selling you a man's bike but I'd heard you were sure thats what you wanted'
I mean WTF?? Surely as a manager if you don't think that someone should be on a mans bike, you go and tell the customer and rectify it there and then.
He also said 'Well we don't stock the female bikes in the store, guess we should really'
I'm like OMG!!!!! Being a novice, I have no idea what bike is best let alone know they have a whole female specific brand with the same bike.
As you can imagine, I'm totally livid at this point. How can a manager do that? Why didn't he come and speak to me and ask how I felt on it or measure me up or something? I don't understand it.
Luckily, he has agreed to order in a Ladies Comp which the shop I was in helped me pick the right sized one and have given me some tips to look at before I leave the shop with it today. They have also said that if this Ladies bike doesn't fit, they will give me a full refund and 'It just means we will have a female bike on the shop floor.' to which I said 'Probably something you need to do really.'
So...wish me luck! I'm just about to call to see if the bike has arrived and make sure they can fit it all up before the 3pm time slot I was quoted yesterday.
Unbelievable
