Did my first long sunday ride in the peeing rain last week and was amazed by how shoot my koolstops were in a wet greasy road. At some points it was taking a good 25 metres to come to a stop. I think I need to strip and clean the brakes, re-align the pads and re-tension the cables this weekend.

What's the normal life you guys get out of Koolstops, I've done about 900 miles so they should have a lot of life left surely.

Did the 720km raid Pyrenean with them a year ago, including one very wet 32km descent into Prades. In fact it rained every flipping day. They were excellent, much better than the Shimano pads I replaced. I bought 2 sets but the 1st set has plenty of life left still and I have done many hundred miles on them since. I tend to be a last minute braker on descents which may help to prolong their life.

Thanks Asterix. I honestly think that it's a technique thing. I'm slowly getting into the idea of proper cycling beyond commuting. Thinking of doing a ride with a club to build up some skills
