For the practical driving test ?
There are - and each test centre has a numbered list of routes for the examiners. If an examiner is forced to deviate from his or her route they have to fill in a report explaining why.Dunno if there ever was 'test routes'. My instructor (and it was a long time ago) reckoned they had 'test areas' where there were elements that had to included in the test were readily available, turn in the road, reverse around a corner, whatever.
Obviously you have to get to these areas so routes to the area may be limited within the time frame of the exam. Still see a lot of learners in the same quiet residential areas my instructor used to take me too now.
For my exam, many moons ago, I can't rememberer why but I ended up getting an examiner from outside my area and as a consequence he never knew mine well and we ended up going for a loop in the easier part of town (less junctions, traffic etc) and turning left at nearly every one. Even I could pass that one first time![]()

Defined routes are to ensure each candidate has the same number of left and right turns, hill starts and roundabouts etc. When I packed up seven years ago the DSA were making routes available to the public after years of keeping them secret. I don't know if they still do, though.
I thought so
but some googling later tells me they now stopped doing this.
SOOOOOOOOO, Got any Inspector mates ? :0)
