There used to be test routes. I know I was an instructor for a while. In the town where I worked there were only two possible routes so we took our pupils round and round them.

I read a few years ago that they were abandoning such 'routes' in favour of more general driving, but if they still have to have a hill start and all of the other features the examiners will still need to stick to a limited range of routes in order to fit the features into the test time.

during my brief foray into instructing i used to sit in when asked, which was handy for seeing where the examiners went, as they weren't published.

that didn't stop there being a sign up in the test centre telling candidates not to practice on 'test routes'

It's the whole "Independent driving that MIGHT get me"

Im ok with "take the 3rd right, 4th left, 258th right" but you gotta be 100% perfect if they then say "Follow the sings for XXX" while I can do that, I dunno, maybe Im just worried over nowt now I think about it

Gaz stop worrying and just give it your best shot, the great thing is you will already have plenty of 'road sense' from the cycling, nerves will be the main thing to overcome but I'm sure you can get over them

Well done GB, a fine effort. Remember, it's the first three months that are dangerous, take it easy.

Now, to put my pedant's cap on -

It wasn't the instructor who told you he was pleased to tell you you'd passed, it was the examiner.

As you were.
