Can you put a belt on wrong ?

traditionally belts for men are fastened from the opposite direction to womens, i.e. the buckle end is on opposite sides, consistent with the difference in how mens/womens garments wrap

some belts have a design with a clear top/bottom, they should be worn the correct way around to avoid people pointing and laughing

yep, that's the standard for men, when fitting the pointy end wraps anti-clockwise (viewed from above) around the body

I recently read an explanation for why men’s and women’s fastenings are on opposite sides. It came down to men traditionally dressing themselves whereas women had a maid dress them. This was in times when fasteners such as buttons and buckles were expensive and hence worn by the aristocracy.

I never realised that was different for women. I knew that tops button the opposite side, but never realised belts were also different.
