Can you put a belt on wrong ?

Buckle in my right hand, belt pulled through the loop clockwise and I'm NOT left handed.

However my Dad was and I might have copied him inadvertently as a child. Also why when I do wear a watch (not often admittedly) I wear it on my right arm.

I wrap my belt around anti clockwise i.e. buckle in left hand - other end of belt in right hand

for some reason I always thought that was technically wrong

I have no idea why but I reckon it doesn;t make any difference

I'm left handed and always have buckle in right hand IE clockwise around you from above. It feels wrong the other way ...didn't realise there was a mens/women's way 😁

That makes a lot of sense, as it means you are doing the fiddly bit with your dominant hand, and just holding the buckle steady with your "second" hand.

Then add in another problem, you've lost a load of weight, and your belt no-longer has enough holes so your pants start falling down. Bought a new belt in 'medium'. MrsF is like that won't fit, try the large. I'd already tried the Medium and my measurement was right in the middle of the holes. So, to keep her happy, got the Large, and proved it didn't have enough holes to hold my pants up !

Tighten a little and it doesn't quite release, a bit more, and again it still holds. Only now its really squeezing. Tighten to release again and..........you get the picture.

I have been known to mistakenly wear two belts at once, while looking for the belt that's underneath the one on top.🤷 These days I much prefer button and leather loop braces, or suspenders as they call them in the USA. Those clip on braces...aghhh I can't stand them!! 🧐

The ratchet belt that I have is ratchet adjusted but quick connect/release.
Actually, it is not ratchet per se. More slide fit and clamp.

I nearly had a disaster a few days ago. My belt wouldn't undo, the mechanism as I eventually discovered was some sort of press one end to lift a latch. It was a belt that I had not used for a while, it was done up a bit too tight so the pull on the belt was hampering the release mechanism. Not usually a problem unless you need the loo 🤔

I too have a ratchet belt(s), love it. I thread from right hip round the back etc , which is clearly the correct way, as then the quick release for the ratchet is perfect position for right thumb to release.

I only once had a slight panic when I first tried it on and hadn't spotted the release button, I could tighten it but not slacken it until I worked it out!

My wife bought me one of those clever reversible belts, black on one side, brown on the other

Didn't come with any instructions, took me ages to work out how to reverse the buckle. Doh.

I recently read an explanation for why men’s and women’s fastenings are on opposite sides. It came down to men traditionally dressing themselves whereas women had a maid dress them. This was in times when fasteners such as buttons and buckles were expensive and hence worn by the aristocracy.

That might be the reason why buttons are on opposite sides for men's and women's clothing so the buckle would be on the top side too.
