Can you put a belt on wrong ?

some belts have a design with a clear top/bottom, they should be worn the correct way around to avoid people pointing and laughing

yep, that's the standard for men, when fitting the pointy end wraps anti-clockwise (viewed from above) around the body

I recently read an explanation for why men’s and women’s fastenings are on opposite sides. It came down to men traditionally dressing themselves whereas women had a maid dress them. This was in times when fasteners such as buttons and buckles were expensive and hence worn by the aristocracy.

Then add in another problem, you've lost a load of weight, and your belt no-longer has enough holes so your pants start falling down. Bought a new belt in 'medium'. MrsF is like that won't fit, try the large. I'd already tried the Medium and my measurement was right in the middle of the holes. So, to keep her happy, got the Large, and proved it didn't have enough holes to hold my pants up !

I've got a belt with a ratchet buckle. Perfect fit every time no matter how much your waistline varies.

I'm left handed and always have buckle in right hand IE clockwise around you from above. It feels wrong the other way ...didn't realise there was a mens/women's way 😁

I have some double sided belts that I always wear buckle left.
I have one belt with a curved profile that does not stick out at the back. The top edge has a smaller radius than the bottom edge. I think it was designed as a gunbelt for plain clothes cops. Obvs it only works one way up.
I have no idea why curved belts are not more popular esp for expensive handmade leather ones.
