Absolutely. A tray of chips, mushy peas, scraps & gravy with salt and vinegar is a rare treat :hungry:

Of course, chips aren't what they used to be so I don't often risk it these days as I got fed up of being served a greasy pallid lump of anaemic semi-cooked potato when I had ordered chips that should be golden and slightly crisp on the outside while soft and fluffy on the inside. You shouldn't have to struggle to peel your chips apart or scrape them off the chip paper/tray at the end!! :cursing:

Best chips I have had in a long time were from Mill Lane Chippy in Macclesfield. They looked at me dumbly when I asked for scraps though, and when I explained they sheepishly admitted to throwing them straight in the bin! All seems a bit backward to me but that's Cheshire for you!

NSFW!

I'm with you @I like Skol apart from the vinegar in gravy.

Your chippy rant is a pet hate of mine aswell due to the rise of establishments that cater for burgers, pizza, chips/fish and kebabs all under one roof. Mostly all the food is mediocre crap and the chips aren't worth eating. What I find surprising is a decent chippy can have people queuing back out the door. A good chippy is hard to find these days.

Ever noticed that its usually the rougher (for want of a better word) areas that has the better chippies?

Apparently, it has something to do with them spontaneously combusting if they arent good.

My area has a great chippy... so that must be the exception that proves the rule. Yeah, thats what it must be...
