Cannot shift to 8th gear

Hi all, I have an issue with my 8th gear.

Even when the gear selector is in the 8th position, it take approx 30 sec to click into gear. What can I do?

Is it a 7 speed bike?

How about a bit of a gear service? That could sort the problem for you. When my gears 'hang' I get the bike on the stand and do a bit of fettling.

Sounds like the rear mech needs lubing/cleaning, does the cable hang slightly loose when selecting 8th, in which case it could be the lower stop but its very unusual for 8th to not engage. Normally its the other way round in that 1st won't engage.

Check the cable isn't damaged or clogged with dirt, especially the length of outer by the rear mech.
