Just back from a utility ride, got delayed on a previous ride with friends so was looking to get to my destination fast-ish, for my standards.
Big, wide, almost empty road, iffy cycle path along it (you got to go through 3 sets of pedestrian/bike lights), then it becomes one of those paths that go on the kerbside till the traffic light, then drop you on the left of a bike box, then directs you back up to the kerbside.

I'm going straight on the A728, which sounds scary but is actually not because of said cycle path.
While I'm on the road, bypassing the cycle crossings that take ages, a motorist starts shouting "get in the cycle lane, they made it for you, why don't you use it!!!!" I tell her to get in the motorway, while I'm sat in a bike box on the road, btw, but she's not having it and speeds off.
Ok, so I now get in the cycle path, that at the next set of lights drops me into a bike box, to the left of a taxi sat in the middle of it. I want to go straight, he wants to turn left, I look at him and proceed.
He shouts: "Stupid!!!!"
All because I needed to go to B&Q at the top of the road.
I'm away for a lie down!

Yeah, I see this so often. For example, they say to get on the cycle track, but then they go and park on it.

I've been barked at for not using an adjacent cycle path.

Same as you, I was cracking on at the time so going too fast to mix it with pedestrians and dog walkers in shared use space.

I had no smart response, relying instead on my comprehensive knowledge of profanities.

I had a "Get on the Cycle Path" from a white van from a large delivery company.

Took great delight in pointing out the irony to the Company that the reason the Cycle Path was unusable was the illegal parking of one of their vehicles.

Then demanded an apology from their driver and asked what they were going to do about the illegal parking

Happened to me on saturday, cycling along a quiet country road with a cycle path next to it but it crosses junctions etc so stuck to the road, got a council van toot at me and point towards the path, I think you can guess what I done with my middle finger

Well, hope he didn't say you don't pay council tax

Face it, driving a motor vehicle is a miserable frustrating business on today's roads. There is nothing a cyclist can do to help, really.
I disagree: the chap driving a vintage tractor pulling a trailer of gravel yesterday seemed quite happy with his task, puttering along country lanes at 15mph in the sunshine.
