Is there a magic formula I need to know to get my CB adjusted correctly. Over the years I have tried to maintain replace and repair them but I always end up with a very weak brake.I have even sought advice from Sheldon Brown but I still struggle to get a decent brake.

Anyone got amy ideas on how I can improve my stopping power.

there's a fantastic thread, with pictures, on the CTC forum on this subject, too long to repeat here:-

The secret? Koolstop Salmon brake pads. Cantis will never rival well set up v's or even dual pivot callipers, but they will be more than adequate with Koolstops and accurate adjustment.

My tourer has Tektro CR520's the said brake blocks, and even with arthritic mits, I can stop reliably.

which cantis do you have?

I've used Tektro Oryx on my old commuter and Tektro 520s on my current cross bike and never had a problem with stopping power. Fork judder is another issue....

Oh, and agree with Gerry Attrick: Koolstop pads are the way to go.
