Well, a quiet day in the office and I read the whole blog, at least so far as Namibia. Sounds like you had a great trip, well done.

Jonas123. I had no problems. Just my mp3 player yanked from my collar in Yaounde, Cameroon but that can happen in any big city. That was about it. The bike was well behaved. Just one (1!) puncture at the start, in Morocco.

onlineamiga. It was a solo tour. 99% of the people I met gave me nothing but smiles and was always welcomed by villagers / village chief when I needed to camp, and many times was given a spare bed. I'd never been to any African country before, and speak little (tiny?!) French, that was the biggest problem, language, but i couldn't let that stop me!!
It's amazing how we perceive a country to be, always based upon negativity, as thats what the news brings us, but we never hear about the good sides to a country. Angola "A very dangerous country" Rubbish, friendly people and some excellent scenery....Surfing on the sandy beaches and a live TV interview, quite surreal....and an excellent Couchsurfer host.

I've just posted the South African post, along with 20 slide-show pics wallisonwheels.com

I read your chapter on Nigeria with interest because I know it well having been there around 65 times on business and therefore spent over two years there! All I can say is that your experience is clear evidence of the almost total absence of any tourism; Nigerians themselves are friendly, educated and enterprising and it's such a shame that visitors to Africa seldom get to experience this amazing country.

There is a game reserve at Yankari but most of the animals have been eaten.

If it's any consolation acquiring a business visa for Nigeria is also a nightmare, my last one cost the company £1200, which included a Temporary Work Permit, the latest money-making scam they are operating.
