They want something as good as a 20k VW transporter for a poor mans budget in the going forward meeting.

Hire something when you need to? Saves purchase, maintainance, insurance, depreciation etc....

It's for a nursery. What type of car seats do they use? If they are all isofix then your choices are limited I am afraid as many of the 7 seaters only have 3/4 isofix points. Usually one in the front passenger then 2 in the back if it is bench seat or 3 if they are all separate seats. Most rear 2's are belt only or not suitable at all for seats if the straps don't come down on the right locations.

I personally would never put a young one in a belt fixed car seat facing forward as they are not as safe as rear facing and isofix is more resilient in a crash but that is another argument, hence why I size came in.

Hmmm Renault grand scenic are looking good but there's the electrical problems. I'm not bothered about ISO fix this and that as long as everything is legal. My own children have a belt that travels through their seats.

Avoid 1.8 16v Mk1 Zafiras if you can. They suffer terribly with EGR valve problems. Although they are easy to change, they are £60-80 a pop for a recon.

Also, if you get a "bad one" look out for coil-pack, lambda sensor and wiring loom problems - and pray you don't get dreaded ECU failure.

Forward facing is not as safe, but a correctly fitted belted seat performs every bit as well as an isofix one in crash tests.

You are right about the issue of fitting seats though. The newer zafira's are not as easy to get a good install with a belted seat, and there are restrictions on the type of seats and age/weight of children that can use the rear seats - although that is the same for all 7 seaters.
VW Sharan are nice.

Dear oh dear, this thread is irritating for the apostrophe polizei.

The plural of Zafira is Zafiras.

While I'm on, are Mr Renault's electrics still rubbish?

They were known to be in the 1980s, but I wonder if the newer Renaults are better.

We've got a fairly new Megane. The electrics themseelves seem fine, but the built in satnav / stereo system is the most incomprehensible and random heap of junk I've ever come across. The satnav screen makes a perfect something to lean a phone on, while I rely on GoogleMaps...
