Yes that's what I'm thinking, I can live with using the key instead of fob for a while longer I think :okay:
might pay to ask @smokeysmoo sure he use to work at either a Citroen or Peugoet dealership a while back

I've fixed both mine and the missus fobs. My fob has the blipper bit which can be removed. The wife's was all self contained, but I managed to get a new case of ebay to repair it. If the electronics have gone, then it will be a dealer.

Know of anyone decent, preferably in the Manchester/Stockport area, and how much I should be looking at paying?
Eh up Potsy. I only saw this a couple of days ago and this is the first chance I've had to reply.

The trouble with the main dealers is not just the parts cost but the labour as well. I worked for a Peugeot dealer as @biggs682 mentioned.

We used to quote worse case scenario IIRO £200. That would be if you had nothing to go off and we had to retrieve the key number, plip code, get the blade cut, supply the plip and code it in, however, if you had the key number and plip code then the cost started to come down. The plip code was supplied on a credit card with a scratch off panel.

So what about the labour costs? Well if only there as an aftermarket way of getting genuine parts supplied cut and coded for less, well guess what, there is pal ^_^

I used to supply a company on the A6 at Westhoughton, BOLTON LOCK COMPANY, with genuine keys, plips and key blades. There will probably still be cheaper ways of doing it as these guys are Master Lock Smiths after all and not the Back Street Boys , but if you just want to get the right parts and have the job done then these guys are really very good, and IIRC they can even come to you :okay:

Alternatively eBay as mentioned is not bad, quality varies a lot and you may need to get a bit creative sometimes due to generic internal moulding, but I've done this myself as well. Classic case of getting what you pay for really.

Hope that's of some help

We replaced the key fobs recently. One I got the fob from eBay and swapped the PCB and key innards over - literally a 5 minute job if that . The other needed microseconds replacing , so we sent it off. That was about £20 IIRC.
What's the actual problem?

VAG keys - certainly for older cars - seem fairly easy to get. I had a local VAG specialist make a remote key for my Mk1 Leon for about £50 (which was handy because when the original packed up I realised that the locks had failed and you couldn't open the doors with the key, causing a lot of swearing and breaking in through the boot)

The Leon was replaced by a Picasso (which I bought because it was cheap, reliable versatile and has lots of room, just to save anyone wondering why anyone would buy such a vehicle - it's because it suited the purposes I wanted it for at the time) and the remote key never worked on that (although everything else did) Try as I might I couldn't find anyone significantly cheaper than the dealer, I'm afraid.
