Driving up to Peterborough straight after work tomorrow so will be doing the usual cycle route from Tooting Bec to Camden... in the car.

I'm an experienced driver but haven't yet had the pleasures of driving through London in rush hour. Hopefully I won't inadvertently hit up the bus lane, go for the ASL, jump on the pavement to filter past traffic (only joking, I don't do this ;-)) or hear my number plate shouted out by anyone!

Looking forward to it actually... will be interesting to see how much longer the journey takes.
for my money I'd pay the charge and avoid the pinchpouints that skirt around the congestion zone, the traffic is really slow there with all the other drivers doing the same thing..

I downloaded a free satnav app for my smartphone called "Waze", which I've been trying out for the last 2 weeks, mostly on my commute with a couple of trips into London. It seems remarkably good at avoiding traffic jams as it uses other Waze users to monitor traffic. Recommended.

Well I'm in! No sweat at all (literally). Just a calm 8 mile shunt through London. Didn't annoy anyone :P It's a funny dynamic between cars and cyclists- find yourself continuously overtaking each other. Have to really have your wits about you too in slow moving traffic with cyclists filtering on both sides. Had a motorbike pull a dodgy move on me, but I spotted him in time. Providing you're eyes are open and you have a relaxed demeanor, it's fine.

Tell you what though, the cycle and bus lanes are a great thing for drivers and cyclists.

Good fun.
