Anyone else see this last night? As well as the usual shocking behaviour by numpties, both on bikes and in cars there was footage of a cycling instructor complaining of a close pass through a pinch point. Now I agree close passes shouldn't happen and we should be able to trust motorists not to do them without us needing to take further action but from the footage there appeared to be no attempt to move out of the gutter and block the pinch point in primary.

I just thought an instructor would have instinctively done that or did I view it wrongly? (Can't link to video at work  )

In last weeks episode a guy suffered a very seriouse injury after a car pulled out and the cyclist wrongly assumed the driver had seen him..the car had stopped for an oncoming car..not the cyclist.
to me the accident was a smidsy and the cyclist should have seen the danger..but pressed on regardless with very serious consequences.

im going to watch episode 2 now

Assumptions can be very dangerous things. Whenever I'm waiting to turn right out of a junction and there's a car on the road I'm joining indicating to turn left into the road I'm leaving, I always wait to make sure he really does start turning left.

The 6k driving lesson lady...now she really should not be driving..
lame tv to be honest
Oh yeah I'd forgotten about her. She may now have a license but she really shouldn't be allowed to drive and I'm not saying that in a nasty way, I just don't think she has managed to acquire the skills her new documentation says she has.

A couple of tips I picked up that have helped to keep me safe over years of motorcycling and now cycling............

Car waiting to pull out of a T junction:
1) Where are the drivers eyes looking?
2) Focus on the wheels. You will spot movement of the vehicle earlier if you're looking at the wheels. Reason - the top of the wheel moves twice as fast as the vehicle. Cycloid curve and all that stuff.

Of course if Jack-the-Lad has those stupid spinning wheel discs, that has me jumping on the brakes every time.

From what was shown, I also felt she required further experience before being considered safe to be driving unsupervised. Maybe the tv footage was edited to show the worst parts of her driving early on. It could have been from 18 months before the period showing her with the pass cert. They will show anything to increase viewer numbers (same as the benefit programmes).

Some people are just not suited to driving a car; they are so nervous that they are never really in command of their vehicle and their position on the road.

The 1st thing my driving instructor said to me, after congratulating me on passing my test, was that now you really start learning how to drive and if you always assume other drivers will do something stupid then you won't go far wrong.

I've watched it with the wife out, as things are a bit 'raw' in the house at the minute. There was a right turner on a cyclist in there last night. Some shocking motorway driving though.
