LOL didnt take long for the objections to air.

All I could think was it would be one hell of an expensive way to get cyclists accross the Firth! Maintenance on that thing is expensive enough, but at least they can justify it by showing how much commercial traffic uses it.
Has anyone said if they'd erect windshields for the cyclists?

I went over there last weekend, i hadn't realised that it's now free in both directions.
Guess they're going to need every penny they can scrape together to pay for the new one.

There already is a car-free bridge across the Forth.

This one.

Perhaps not what they were thinking of, but it has a great place in Scots history.

A common error. I have photographic proof that the battle of Stirling Bridge was actually fought on a rugby pitch in Ireland.

Is that not the famous bridge from the battle of Stirling Bridge (or rather the site of).

That's what the plaque on the bridge says (although the bridge itself is not the original). See also here.

Whisper that not, within ten miles of Stirling, m'lad! They have ways of dealing with doubters like you, probably some of them involve dropping you from the top flight of the Wallace Monument...

;) I was mostly brought up in Stirling - it was always a nationalistic place. The school had a large framed copy of the Declaration of Arbroath hanging in the entrance hall, and nearly everyone could recite bits of it by heart. Our house was a field away from site of the Battle of Bannockburn.

Cycling from age about 8 to 17 was round the hills to the W of the town and trips up to Doune & Callander. Single speed Hercules with chromed steel wheels. xx(

My son lives there at present - student - so we've visited several times and are getting fairly familiar with the city. He says some of the hills thereabouts are quite - er - testing. ;)

The Scottish government is trying to decide what to do with the FRB, car free is one of the options. What do you think?

Didn't they just complete some new motorway connections to the bridge? I think the old adage works best: two is company, three a crowd. They'll knock it down when they really ought to focus on reducing the reliance on cars - they already have a Park and ride scheme, and Scotrail are good company (in my experience.)
