Having built Beautiful Daughters next bike, I had to figure how to move it from Freiburg, where I work, to Stuttgart, where the family lives. I had a plan for this, which involved repairing another bike for Middle Son, who really desperately needs one to get to work. He would then come on the train, collect his bike, and we'd travel to Stuttgart together, so he could assist me moving the small bike on and off trains. Between trains and apartments I could tow the little bike behind the Xtracycle, something I've done many times.

Unfortunately Plan 'A' didn't work because yours truly didn't get the second bike ready in time. Experimentation yesterday (above) showed that trying to carry the small bike entirely on the Xtracycle was a non-starter, so bicycle transportation will have to wait for a couple of weeks while I get another bike repaired and Middle Son organises work schedules...

That's the normal method when off the train but it makes it a bit bulky when dealing with lifts, changing trains et c. Much easier with two people and then as a tagalong when riding from train/tram to apartment.
