We have booked a villa in spain and flights for just under a grand for a familly of four ....bargain i thought.

Next step ...book a hire car for the week.

1 ford focus or similar ....£427..........blimey is this normal or are the cheekey Spaniards trying it on????

It seems well excessive to me.

I have checked around on 5 or 6 sites and they are all coming out roughly the same.

Have you tried looking on Spanish forums? We hired at the airport, can't remember how much but didn't seem wildly excessive. However, the morning after we took the vehicle there was a crack in the windscreen and we noticed a tiny chip near the edge obviously caused by a stone during someone else's use. Although we eventually managed to get a replacement vehicle we had to pay rather a lot for a new screen.

Dont get me started! we go every year to my folks place in spain and book the car maybe 2-3 weeks before we travel. Checked 2 months ago and a Megane was £188 for 14 days but didnt book it as waited to see whether the brother in law and his wife were coming otherwise would have gone for smart car for £80!!

Went to book a megane or similar 3 weeks ago and was £620!! Don't know what the Feck is going on, they never do this normally.... have found a fiesta for £325 for 14 days so will have to squeeze in that!

Unfortunately there is no real alternative option for us, the Villa is an hour from Murcia and Almeria Airports and its on a golf course, 11k from the beach and any shops, have walked it once early morning (ok so it was when the nightclub closed at 7.30am) and its pretty much an arrid desert and it almost killed me, where abouts are you going? Taxi's in Spain can be pretty unreliable and pricey if your not in touristy places.

Good luck!

Watch out for the taxis! They're quite capable of taking new arrivals for a more expensive ride than they expect. Best to pick them up at proper taxi stands and don't let them drop you on the shady side of the street. Get your luggage out before you pay them.

Also pickpockets are rife in the cities.

Just found this one ......Holidaygolfauto.com

Car hire seems extrordinarily cheap considering prices quoted by other companies ....150 euros for a fiesta

Im just wondering if it looks too good to be true....blah blah

GTGF,
I use carjet.com when i go to alicante, they were quite reasonable price for all in insurance etc, no hidden extras, the only thing i had to pay for at the airport was the full tank of petrol, which you can get back if you fill it up on return. And you get an extra driver free.

I have always booked a ford fusion online and everytime I've turned up they've given me an upgrade to the next size up (picasso ). I've been 4 times so far!

Good luck !

Just had a quick look dont bother everything is sold out ,sorry !

We got a really good deal a year or so ago thru' this lot - cardelmar.co.uk - but all I'm getting at the moment is 'page not found'. Maybe they've gone bust? Might be worth trying a bit later...could be just a server problem. And they were a lot cheaper than alternatives, like about 2/3 the price.
