Without getting bogged down in you being the John Harvey Jones of the windscreen world, the fact of the matter is that it is profiteering because they have a system whereby they know they're onto a winner whether you go under or over a quarter tank. You don't need to defend them just because they're in business like you are, I'm sure you run a reputable outfit where service is paramount, these jokers don't.

Thank you for the comparison, I am totally unworthy of it though. As windscreens make up only a small part of my income, nowadays.

One of my customers had one he did not. Another a Budget franchise, not so good there either.

Whilst I agree with it being the cafe and should be light hearted, it is also a discussion area and it soon goes off topic, when somebody slightly disagrees with certain posters.

Mort's glass is a quarter full and he's peeved, yours is overflowing and you're peeved...sheesh! I think there needs to be some transparency at all times, with shattering revelations, wind ups (and downs) when someone pushes the right buttons, smashing repartie and a toughened attitude to panes in the ars...e by gum. Do you really wear a medallion?

Have you ever seen how "public" rental costs compare to corporate?[/QUOTE]

No what is the difference, also in the cost to serve the consumer.

Just to add to this. I bought the same insurance.

However, I had to be very firm with a car rental agency in Malaga, when they insisted I had to purchase their insurance despite having my own. They said I would have to put down a £500 deposit on my credit card for not taking their insurance. I said fine. Turns out they did not put a £500 deposit after all on my credit card.

The staff must be on commission. It annoys me that the insurance industry allow unregulated persons to sell insurance, albeit understandably this is much harder to regulate (from a UK perspective) overseas. But we see many examples here, mobile phone insurance being one.

Nowadays, I don't hire, the worry (driving/leaving/parking it) is horrible when I am supposed to be on holiday. I've been fleeced by most big companies and possibly every one bar Helle Holis in Spain, and that was probably due to an oversight................the whole industry appears to be about competing for your signature and CC details, rather than car hire, once they are obtained then the "real" business starts.

I understand the big hire companies reckon to buy the new cars at such a whacking discount they can sell them at a profit after three or six months of hiring them out.

Works well for the companies because they can also advertise 'no car older than six months or X thousand miles'.

The provenance of the car can be disguised to maximise its second hand value.

For example, the registration document of a, say, 'Acme Hire Cars' car will not say that, it might say something like 'AHC Services Ltd'.
