I'm hoping by the time my kids are 18, driverless cars are the norm and insurance of this scale will be pretty much a thing of the past

My niece's first year insurance was over £3k on a 1.4 Lupo. she has since upgraded to a GTi version of the shopping trolly. She drives it like a 'plonker'. She passed me last week at about 50 mph on a narrow road - I was doing 30 on my bike. She didn't realise it was her uncle. I may have let slip to her mum when her mum said she'd asked her daughter how long it had taken to get somewhere, and she replied 'I have got a GTi you know ! Dobbed her in well and truely. I did mention the stone wall and lamp posts on the bend at the bottom of the hill

Yoofs and 'invincibility' especially when driving not much more than a match box with an engine. Hence insurance being sky high, for a very good reason.
