I love the way people picking up other people on their grammar or punctuation always make mistakes themselves - dont you?

I used to look at the renewal from Direct Line, get a lower quote from Churchill, then use it to lower the Direct Line renewal. Always worked nicely, as they're the same company. But now I'm with Hastings Direct who are boat loads cheaper, and the girlfriend gets a Sergei meerkat toy that she says looks like me!

My tooth-grinder at the moment is NPower. We're told to save as much energy as we can to lower our bill. The government asks them to simplify the bill. So they introduce a Standing Charge. Guaranteed basic payment from everyone each year, keeps the profits up, and cancels out the best money saving efforts of the customer. Ta very much!!

You seem to think that because I am explaining how it works that I am defending them, I'm not

No; not much . You just like having a go at anyone who criticises* your (gawd, hope I spelled that correctly) precious insurance companies then? You are basically saying that they are right to increase premiums for no other reason than they know they can get away with it in most cases. It's up to us, the valued customer (who they don't make any money from - aye, right), to phone and negotiate a discount. Why not just quote the best price from the start?

It's not rocket science.

* Despite my American spell checker telling me this should be spelled "criticize", I am sticking to my guns. Hope you're (top marks there, teacher?) not American, Lee_M. ^_^

Eats shoots and leaves this thread..........

Nope, I just tried to explain how they operate, it's hardly my fault if the other participants choose to ignore facts and have a rant is it?

My van insurance is due at the end of this month. My renewal quote was pretty much the same as last year's. I did the usual search for other quotes and much to my surprise the lowest quote I could find was only circa £11 cheaper than the renewal quote so I'm just letting it auto renew.

My building and contents insurance is also due at the end of the month. My renewal quote was lower than what I paid last year for the same cover. Bit of digging for other quotes and it was still cheaper. So I'm sticking with the renewal quote on that as well.

I've gone through all the small print and can't find anything untoward. It's quite disturbing in a way. It just seems wrong to have one decent renewal quote, let alone two.
