Clear over base..respray or just ignore..
A good flat and polish might do the trick but you need to know what's what with that.

Try a good cutting compound like G3 or similar first..ask at a good car spares shop or auto paint supplier.

I use that everyday, it will not work on that roof. A base and clear would work well if stripped back to bare metal first, expect in the region of £250, in fact most often for the trade we would expect £500 for a quality job.

Any idea of ball park coatings for vinyl wrap vs roof only respray?

I reckon the roof respray would be three or four ton if the shop had to do all the prep top, so many times the cost of a wrap.

That's about what I was thinking.
any of the exterior paints, they look good on exterior wood work and metal work for 5+ years, a car roof may be a harsher enviroment but if its looking shabby in 2 or 3 years slap some more on. its only about a tenner a tin, and a tin would do the roof several times. Seroulsly a roof respray will probably cost more than the car is worth, and a coat with a brush for a tenner would do a good enough job.
The reason I asked is that I have not had much success using a waterbourne paint on outside metal, and was hoping you could give me a brand name to work with. Even googling is not helping much.

Ok going off topic a little as I think it's been exhausted. 15 years of faultless service. 2 litre turbo diesel corolla, 135 000 miles on it. I have a full service history including timing belt changes and tensioners and pump I believe are done at the same time as timing belt.

Where would you stop investing in it?

Surely £150-£250, depending on timing belt changes or not per year is more economical than getting a new car. Engine has always been spot on and still low mileage. Could tank on to 200 000 could explode tomorrow.
