Hi,

Just bought an old peugeot. Just starting to get into cycling. Does anyone know if a Carbolite 103 is a decent frame that would be worth upgrading? The frame is in good nick (not top end) with only a few chips etc.

Any feedback would be great.

Cheers,

Col

As "gaspipe" steel frames go, Peugeots and other French entry-level bikes ride really well, so you CAN upgrade this bike.

Remember that the entry-level Peugeots, including the multiple-function "mixte" ones, share the same design DNA as the top-level all-Reynolds-531 DB racing frames that dominated European stage races for many decades.

I blame the UO-8 and UO-18 Peugeot's "bad rap" on the heavy steel-rimmed wheels that never stopped or turned well: If yours has steel rims now, try a lighter set of wheels with alloy rims instead. You will be very pleasantly surprised by the improvement in responsiveness, I promise. These are durable and nice-handling bikes.

Try lighter wheels first, then evaluate your bike...

He has lighter wheels tbh.

I would look for a 501 framed bike or a tange 4130 framed bike not as desirable as 531 or above but still ride well.

Hi there! Let me revitalize this thread with some pics and questions.
I have bought this Peugeot Carbolite 103 from a flea market. I intend to refurbish it, and try to return it back to life

Would you help me to determine what is the model? There is no such mentioning anywhere on it...
Is it from the 70's or from the 80's?
Is there something that makes it a classic model in some way?

If you need any measurements or any specific pics, please let me know and I will provide.
Thank you for your assistance, I would really appreciate it.
