I think Ribble have something that's takes decent mudguards? Or maybe PX? Not sure on the discs. Have you looked at carbon CX, but costly (you don't specify a budget)

Do you really need a carbon frame for a commuter?

Budget is around the £1000 mark, will have a look at Ribble and PX. The discs I want as it'll be my winter commuter. Carbon - need no, want yes! I love my other bike (which is carbon) and want something that feels similar for the winter.

I think you will struggle for £1000 if wanting carbon. Some lovely Alu/carbon options though, look at the Whyte range  Or there's always steel like the Croix de fer (someone is selling a barely used one for £250 below list in the classifieds)

I'm no expert, but that's quite a spec (disc brakes AND carbon) for that budget.

Not sure PX do bikes with discs, but you can fir Crud Road Racers to most any frame I think.
Proper guards!

Ally frame.
Yes but a very good light one.
When I was looking for a CX bike with clearance for big tyres and disc brakes this would have been my choice as it was super light and quality bit of kit.
Unfortunately at the time the only disc version was the Ultegra CAADX which I didn't want for winter use.
