This will help the OP to be left in no doubt that her OH needs to go check the bikes out in person- a bike fit last week ruled that my L Defy is too small for me at 6'2" and I've had to buy an extra long seat post (450mm) in order to carry on the fit (the shop didn't sell that size so I could tell he wasn't on the sell, it was the 'minimum' line being above the collar that gave it away) I guess a lot of my height comes from my legs.

Agreed - until you know what fits and how to read geometry charts, buying without trying could lead to problems.

If the OP's OH is 5'9", he'd likely be either a small or medium in Giants sizing.

Supersix evo. If he wants a 'proper' race bike.

By proper I mean it's (near as dammit) the same frame the Cannondale Garmin race with. If he wants kudos with his club mates, that's probably the best bike for the money. Of course, if all he's doing is doing club runs and the odd sportive, it's probably a bit overkill but I'm guessing that's not what he wants to hear ;).

Based on my sitting on a Defy a few years back, I'd say an ML would be on the large size for someone 5'9

They have the EVO in a 54cm, but if the guy wants a racy bike, he may be looking at sizing down presumably. I think the C dales come up largeish. @Sittingduck is that sort of height and has an Evo
I have a ML and am 6ft.
