OK I know it`s probably a daft question BUT is there anything problematic about using a carb seat post on a steel frame ? Also, are seatposts available in different diameters or do all road bikes share a common seat post sizing ?

no problem with using a carbon post in a steel frame.

as for sizes, there are lots of differing sizes. everything from 25mm up to 31.8mm

1 thing when you put it in do not do it up to tight you will just crush it just get it to stop moving and then leave it.

I have carbon post on one mountain bike and on 1 road bike. the road bike post kept slipping and as I was coming to the point when then post looked liked it was starting to crush, I fitted a short length of copper heating pipe just to where the clamp would be and it has been fine since.

ok, so it defeats the ultra lightness but it looks bling, and somethines that is more important - I doubt the tube would weigh more than 20 g.
