I've got a bike with an aluminium frame and carbon seat stays, and was just wondering how they're joined to the dropouts. Here's a pic:

I'm assuming that the red bit at the end of the stay is aluminium, and is bonded to the stay (using epoxy resin?). Is the aluminium inserted into the carbon, or is it just a flat join at two ends?

Thanks

PS. I don't suppose anyone has any tips on buffing out those scuff marks?

How much does it cost to Oldham?
I'm pretty sure thry're bonded and riveted- 3M glue. Good stuff. Bonded at the top as well.

Try fine emery paper on the scuffs- getnly gently!

The joint will be socketed - the alli will extend into the CF tube to allow a greater surface area for the bonding resin and to provide some leverage. Scuff marks = very fine emery paper, T-Cut, Scratch Remover and finish off with a decent car polish
