They were in the city centre, mainly looking after folk after a night out - not heard of them for years.

I showed them my strava trace of me speeding up. One of the officers lives near me and cycles to work. Oh and we chatted about Sur-ron riders...

Forgot to add, the officer that cycled a lot said he was keen to do an un-marked patrol down there on his bike, but, health and safety, would mean he had to do training and ride round the car park to satisfy the H&S, despite he was a cyclist.

TBH they were great fellas, one was quite young and he did the statement stuff on the 'phone', the other was the older cyclist. As they arrived at work I said are you in a marked, or un-marked car ? Un-marked they said. Better go to reception and log the registration as the "car parking police" will get you. It's ANPR stuff and a private company will be sending a charge to GMP - oh how we laughed.

I didn't expect any follow up at all, the main reason was to alert them that this 'stuff' was happening again and it's of course, freshers, and easy targets. Not so surprised to know that it's a specific group of lads that they know are upto this stuff, and they are doing a load of background work to pin stuff on them, even me not being able to identify anyone.

Apparently they are just after bikes, making someone crash, fall off, nab bike and leg it (happened recently, cyclist dazed, bike gone). I went, hmmm, that would probably not have worked well, as I am quite good at crashing, and would have just got up, and the implications of that don't bear thinking about - i.e. they usually have weapons as the police officers confirmed.

I'm sorry you've had this experience. Glad that you came out the other end unscathed.
What a nightmare to contend with this reality.

Not really, four lads, dark clothing with their hoods up, on a bright warm sunny day. They were hiding in the gloom of one of the bridges.

I did have a half brick thrown at me at that location once a few years back. Hopefully they can get the idiots.
